Comparing the character Heathcliff to a modern day version
Heathcliff is a very distinctive character in the way that his personality and characteristics shouldn't make you attracted to him, however it is the opposite and people find Heathcliff appealing. Although he is very rude, selfish, has no common sense, a minor compared to the upper class families he is surrounded by it makes him loveable and his love for Cathy shows through all of that. He hides his love for her behind all of the rudeness and anger and manages to over power other characters who should be of authority to him.
Edward Cullen:
Characters like Heathcliff can be compared to those of modern day characters. Edward Cullen from the famous film Twilight is a good example of how people can be attracted to someone who's role is essentially 'bad' throughout the film. Edward is a vampire so therefore likes to suck human's blood, but this dark side to him makes him extremely attractive throughout the film even if that's meant to be the opposite intention. There was a massive uproar when this film came out of females who fantasised over him, he definitely had 'sex appeal'
Serverus Snape:
Snape in Harry Potter definitely doesn't have 'sex appeal' like Edward Cullen. He is not a character that females would fantasise over or really just be attracted too. In fact, a lot of people dislike Snape up until later in the movies when you actually find out his story, he is known to be an evil character who although is on the good side he has it in for Harry Potter from the start which makes the audience hate him. He is very similar to Heathcliff in the sense that they both fail to move on from past events, they both lose their loved ones (Heathcliff loses Cathy and Snape loses Lily). They both then take this anger out on their true loves children (Cathy Linton & Harry Potter). They were both treated poorly in the past by their so called loved ones who were meant to look after them and this causes them to not trust falling in love or loving people again.
