Gelatine pre made moulds

Today we used gelatine moulds to create different wounds on the skin. Sue pre made the moulds using gelatine. To do this she used a mould from Charles fox and sprayed it with petrolese (release spray) so that the gelatine didn’t stick to the plastic mould. To store them she put them in a container with talc powder so that the moulds didn’t melt or stick together.

Moulds are really good for continuity as you will always create the exact same piece to apply to the skin, the only part you have to get right is exactly where you place it on the skin.

To stick the moulds to the skin we used a different type of glue called pros-aide, this glue can be used to stick anything on the skin and can also be used in sensitive areas. Pros-aide is a contact glue meaning that in order to stick something n the skin you have to apply the glue to the (in this case) prosthetic and also the area in which you are applying it. The glue then bonds together when it comes in contact with each other.

    1. Apply pros-aide to the skin and the prosthetic. Wait for the glue to go clear on both the skin and the prosthetic. It may seem like the glue has totally dried by the time it goes clear but as soon as the glue comes in contact which each other it will stick.

2.    Make sure the press down really hard on the prosthetic and smooth over the skin so that the gelatine mould lays flat on the skin and looks like it’s part of their skin.

3.     To get rid of hard edges and smooth them out you can use witch hazel and a cotton bud and smooth it over to create clean edges. This is the part that takes the longest and you need to be very thorough with as it you don’t get rid of the edges and take the time to make it smooth and clean, the prosthetic piece will look fake and not realistic.

4.    After the prosthetic is applied to the skin use powder to make the piece look skin like and take away any shine. You can then apply colour depending on what kind of effect you want on the wound. I used a mixture of supra colours, fake blood and wound filler.

Self reflection:

I really enjoyed this lesson and I think it went really well. I much prefer using pre made prosthetic pieces rather than moulding them myself on the skin, it is a lot quicker and much better for continuity. I did find trying to blend away hard edges harder than I thought it would be as I didn’t want to break the mould too much and ruin all the edges. I also had an issue with leaving extra glue on the skin meaning that when I applied the supra colours it clung to the areas with the glue on and made the colour a lot more pigmented. This is something that I need to make sure doesn’t happen when doing it again.

Horror meets fashion

Today in lesson with Kat we looked at different make up looks that have been inspired by gothic horror and used for catwalk shows and high fashion shoots etc. Mine looked very simple to create however it was really hard to get that messy, effortless eye look without it looking too neat and as if i've tried to hard (which was the case hahah). I was really pleased with the outcome as i think it looked pretty similar to what Val Garland did for Vivienne Westwood.

5 minute presentation and feedback

Feedback:
- Start with my face charts and hair charts for both characters.
- Ideas and storyline are good and relate to the character briefs.
- My chosen words relate well not just to the character brief but my chosen storyline for each character. 
- Research into finding out how to create different types of shadows using different lighting set ups.

Over all i think the presentation went really well. I wrote it on keynote and the computers in the uni didn't support that program but luckily i borrowed a class mates laptop to use to present my ideas. Apart from this, that was the only thing that went wrong and i will know to do it on powerpoint in future. The feedback i got really helped me to focus on what i needed to do next and i feel like i am on the right track. 

Final - 2nd continuity assessment

These are the images from my second continuity assessment. Throughout the whole process i made sure to go step by step in reference to my continuity notes i had written up from the previous assessment and kept looking at the pictures from the previous assessment to make sure the application looked the same and that colours were applied in the same places. I feel like both the assessments went really well and i was happy with how they turned out and compared to each other.

The only part i had to do different was to add hairspray to josh' hair instead of just using water as his hair had grown a lot within a week and it wasn't holding with just water.

I found myself applying the makeup a lot faster that the previous assessment because i guess i was used to applying the products which was good as this gave me time to perfect everything and double check that everything was how it was in the previous application.

Comme Des Garcons inspired by Gothic

Comme Des Garcons Spring 2014 Ready to Wear

I thought that the make up look for this catwalk was very gothic inspired because of the colours used and the application. Whenever i hear the word 'gothic' i always think of black, that is the colour that is related to goth so this make up look fits in really well with that word. The way that the lips aren't neatly applied and are made to look like a smudge across the face suggests, from my point of view, that maybe they have eaten something full of blood whether that be human,animal or maybe they are a vampire and drink blood. Although the colour is black it looks to me as if the mouth has been stained from blood coming into contact with that area and being smudged across the face.

Final - 1st continuity assessment

These are the images from my first continuity assessment. Overall, i was really happy with how the assessment went, timing was really good and the make up and hair went as planned. I was worried that the timing was going to be an issue because we only had 1 hour and 30 minutes to do hair and make up and since the course has started we have never had a time scale like that to do both hair and make up. I practiced timing when i did it on josh the night before to make sure i was capable of doing it and it went absolutely fine, i had a lot of time to spare. This was good because i could then look over my face and hair chart and notes and make sure that i remembered every step and took notes on what colours and what order i used products etc.
